Fort Dodge Area Caregivers Now Have Evening Support Group

There is a new, more convenient time for family caregivers to attend the Elderbridge Support Group in the Fort Dodge area.

Starting April 12, 2017 a family caregiver support group will meet at 6 pm at the Elderbridge office in Fort Dodge.

There is no cost to participants. Meals will NOT be provided, however those who attend are welcome to bring their own dinner, if they choose, to use this time to eat and learn.

Where: Elderbridge office at 308 Central Avenue, Fort Dodge

When: April 12, 2017 and on the 2nd Wednesday of each month

Time: 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

-Stop by once a week to pay your parent’s bills and take them grocery shopping?

-Call a friend a few times a week to check-in on them to make sure they are safe?

-Miss work or rearrange your job schedule to take others to appointments?

The Iowa Family Caregiver Program is supported by Iowa’s Area Agencies on Aging and provides the following:

-Empowering – With the right information, resources, and support, caregivers can better manage their situations, and make informed choices and useful plans.

Families play a significant role in the care required for our frail older family members, friends and adults with disabilities. In fact, families provide 80 to 90 percent of their care. Nearly one in four households are involved in providing physical and emotional assistance to older relatives and friends and the number of households providing caregiving has tripled in the last decade.
